Группа Serious Black берёт свои корни 23 августа 2013 в Испании, когда Роланд Грапов (ex-Helloween, Masterplan) и Марио Лочерт (Emergency Gate, ex-Visions of Atlantis) начали разговор о музыкальном бизнесе. Группа Serious Black берёт свои корни 23 августа 2013 в Испании, когда Роланд Грапов (ex-Helloween, Masterplan) и Марио Лочерт (Emergency Gate, ex-Visions of Atlantis) начали разговор о музыкальном бизнесе. Марио в итоге удалось убедить Роланда присоединиться к нему.
После возвращения в Мюнхен Марио немедленно связался со своим давним другом Томеном Стаучем (ex-Blind Guardian, Savage Circus) и рассказал ему о своей идее. Томену очень понравилась эта затея, и он немедленно присоединился к коллективу. После этого Ян Вэкик (ex-Dreamscape) и Доминик Себастиан (Edenbridge) тоже очень быстро согласились на сотрудничество. Спустя некотое время к группе присоеденился вокалист - Урбан Брид (ex-Tad Morose, ex-Bloodbound, Trail of Murder).

Гитарист Игорь Джианола наиболее известен по работе с группами Gotthard (1993-1995) и U.D.O. (1998-2013). Alto Voltaggio была образована в 1998 году. «The Darkest Side» - их пятый альбом. В качестве приглашённых музыкантов на диске отметились Scheherazade Privitello, Luca Princiotta (DORO), Gianni Pontillo (The Order) и Lorenzo Definti.
