Группа Крылья была образована в 2004 году в городе Николаеве и сразу избрала курс на движение в русле классического heavy. Под впечатлением как западных, так и отечественных команд, группа стала писать свои композиции, к которым довольно-таки с большой симпатией отнесся местный слушатель. С самого начала группа решила исполнять свои песни на русском языке.

Стиль, в котором играют музыканты Fifth Angel, находится где-то посередине между взрывным пауэр-металом и мелодичным хэви-металом. Одной из отличительных черт звучания Fifth Angel является драматический стиль пения Теда Пайлота. Выученный в классическом ключе, вокалист написал большинство мелодий и текстов песен группы. Группу основал в 1987 году гитарист из Лос-Анджелеса Крис Импеллиттери. В том же году вышел первый одноимённый мини-альбом группы — Impellitteri. Вокалистом выступил Роб Рок, в дальнейшем принимавший участие в 2 частях знаменитой метал-оперы Avantasia, а также работавший с Акселем Руди Пеллем и многими другими коллективами. Более значимый успех ждал группу после выхода первого полноформатного официального студийного альбома в 1988 году — Stand in Line.
